Camper Board Meeting

This past weekend we held the very first in-person Camper Board retreat in the newly renovated farmhouse! It was full of laughter, big ideas, snowball fights, brainstorming sessions, new friends, and endless creativity. We talked about what it means to be a leader in this space and why camp is important to us.

This video shows some highlights from a meeting we had during the retreat. The text is from Maddy and the video was recorded and produced by Quarius.

Kids learn how to make decisions by making them.

What would happen if we trusted kids to exercise their inherent power? Organizations serving youth often talk about all the things they do for kids, but rarely involve them in actual decision making. Stomping Grounds' newly founded Year-Round Camper Board gives kids actual power to change or redirect systems and processes of camp.

This visioning meeting was a space to lay out all our big ideas. We talked about why having a year-round camper board is impactful and important to us and camp. We let our imaginations run wild and brainstormed all the possibilities for steps we want to take to make camp better. These founding members are shaping the capacities and potential of this Camper Board and I’m so excited to see where their dreams take us.

Maddy is a director at Camp Stomping Ground. They love helping kids be creative and autonomous, being outdoors, and embracing chaos. This year they are helping with registration, staffing, and connecting with camper families. It was their dream and vision that helped us start our very first Camper Board.
