Carrie Gilbert - Session 2

she/her

I am an artist based in Rochester New York, with a formal background in graphic design. With a love for gouache painting and a playful exploration with paper and other textile forms, I feel gratitude for all the inspiration each medium has given me. A few other sources of inspiration come from the natural world—its shapes, patterns, and colors—as well as in my mother’s artistry as a talented seamstress. Whether through painting, sewing, or mixed media, I enjoy the freedom that comes with experimenting, allowing myself to step back and enjoy each stage of the process. I hope to continue blossoming in my playfulness and crasmanship as I grow as an artist.

During my time at camp, I hope to paint and explore with paper. I would love the opportunity to teach a workshop on creating paper puppets. The class would allow kids the chance to develop their own character/creature and conceptualize their character's story through the process of paper art and other mixed media materials. During the process, everyone will be able to mix and match their designs pushing their own barriers of creativity.
