Ashley Meagher - Session 2
she/her
My name is Ashley! I grew up in Lewiston, NY and was very lucky to have an excellent art community around me growing up. I studied art as a minor at Nazareth College and was able to study painting in Florence, Italy for half of a semester in 2019 before the pandemic sent me home! I explored drawing, painting, ceramics, metalsmithing, and fiber arts in college and have loved every medium, though my current favorite is fiber arts. I have been creating though needle felting for a couple years now, and it is where I find the most creative freedom and energy. I also love to crochet and knit clothes for myself and my loved ones. In all mediums, I enjoy creating and recreating spaces that hold feelings for me. This usually involves architectural shapes and symbols, while using perspective, color, and oentimes imagined elements to communicate different themes.
I am hoping to branch out in my felting work during this residency. In the past I have stuck to a particular theme of creating homes and parts of homes that held feelings for me, and began stretching that theme to include more imagined compositions in the past couple of years. In this upcoming year I hope to stretch that theme even further and start to include more figures in my work, and create spaces that are more akin to my inner world rather than my outer world. I also want to expand upon my composition making process, by exploring new ways of sketching and planning using more than just pencil and paper.
