The Three Agreements

Everything we do at camp is focused on first getting consent. To do that we want to make sure, as best we can, that campers and staff want to be at Stomping Ground and understand our three agreements to be a member of our community.

Camp is a place where we put the power in the hands of children, as much as possible. This means including all voices in creating solutions when something goes wrong. While that sounds like chaos, it really more accurately describes the type of world we want to live in. We aim to combat the punitive systems often held out as ‘justice’ and instead restore relationships among one another. We hold each other accountable through structured and honest dialogue both before and when conflict arises. This means that kids who have often found themselves kicked out of other spaces find a home here in their second chances.

Respect yourself and others.

  • Approach others with humble curiosity

  • Treat others the way they want to be treated and advocate for yourself on how you want to be treated.

  • No inappropriate, derogatory, racist, or homophobic language

Protect the future of camp.

  • Follow the Rule of 3. Everyone must be with at least two other people (including at least one staff) at all times

  • Respect and care for the physical camp property

  • Keep conversations and actions camp appropriate: no sexual, violent, or derogatory language or behavior

  • No illicit substances or weapons

Talk about conflict when it arises.

You can see more about our restorative justice conflict resolution process here, at camp we call it the Circle System.  This system allows all voices involved in conflicts and decisions to be heart, reflecting the type of world we want to live in. We aim to combat the punitive systems often held out as ‘justice’ and instead restore relationships among one another. We hold each other accountable through structured and honest dialogue both before and when conflict arises.
