Inno Sackey
Inno Sackey - Session 1
they/them
Hey, My name is Inno! I am a 26-year-old nonbinary artist who resides in Philadelphia. I have lived in Philly for about 5 years and now consider it home. I am originally from West Africa, I am Liberian and Ghanaian. I moved to the United States at a very young age, I have loved doing art since I was a kid back home. Originally I started out drawing and sketching but now I enjoy using all mediums. I don't restrict myself to just one art form, I may do one more than the other but I want my art to revolve around all medium types. Right now I have been focusing mostly on Photography ( specifically film photography) and videography. I love using my art as a reflection and how I observe the world. Specifically the people closest to me, I love documenting my friends with my cameras. I want to expand my art more through printmaking (cyanotype & embroidery) and not rely solely on my phone to showcase my work. I currently have an associates in fine arts and will be attending Moore College of Art & Design in the fall. My career goal is to become an art professor and do freelance work on the side.
My earliest memory of making art is when I was back home in Ghana, I was in a drawing contest in 2nd grade and got first place. As a kid I didn’t know drawing mountains, birds and the sun was the start of something great. From then on I became more invested in art, but it was not as accessible until I moved to the U.S. and had my first art class. Seeing huge murals on buildings, and in school was amazing to me. Back home at the time seeing art at that scale was not common. Now that I have an associate degree in art and looking to pursue a BA in fine arts. I want to be able to teach youth,
especially queer black and brown kids that they are visible and can remain visible through their art. As someone who also identifies as transgender someone that looked like this would've made me feel less isolated and more understood. By becoming an art teacher I aim to reach all the queer kids who are here and back home and don't have access to different art mediums to express themselves.
