Opportunity in Transition: Camp Is Hiring!

Camp is in another transition.

There is opportunity in transition.

I love maddy linder so freaking much.

Camp is in another transition.

It feels like we are getting ready to take an early-morning plunge into the lake—startling at first, but soon enough, you remember just how refreshing, how necessary they are. Transitions open doors, push us forward, and offer a million new possibilities.

But this one feels particularly bittersweet. I love Maddy Linder so freaking much. Maddy, you’ve been a part of this place, of my heart, in ways I can’t even put into words. Your dedication, your endless curiosity, your willingness to lean into the weirdness that is camp—I'm so grateful for every moment we’ve had to grow together. And honestly, this whole transition thing has me reflecting on just how important and strange it is to work at camp.

Working at Stomping Ground isn’t just a job. It’s a mind-bending, heart-expanding, life-altering experience.

We’re not just showing up to hang out with kids, play gaga, or organize talent shows. No, we’re on the frontlines of a quiet revolution. The revolution to trust kids at an unprecedented level. To walk toward conflict and engage in messy, vulnerable dialogue. To question and create. To shape, break, and reinvent the very norms that surround us, trying to edge ever closer to a more perfect world.

Maddy, you helped us get closer to our mission and live out our values with intention and curiosity. Your impact here is astounding.

A piece of the legacy Maddy is continuing to ask “why”. Why do we do it that way? Why not this way? Why does that get us closer to our goals? I will miss the camaraderie and compassion in which Maddy asked WHY. We are looking for someone to join our team that will continue to help us question, iterate, invent, and untangle why we do things the way we do them.

As we enter this next chapter, I’m reminded of where we started, of those early days when Stomping Ground was just an idea, a seed of something radical. Look at how far we’ve come. Look at what we’ve built together. And sure, the transitions can feel hard. They bring change, challenge, and sometimes, a bit of chaos. But they also bring us new opportunities—to innovate, to grow, to welcome new voices and new ideas.

Each summer we get to join hands with a diverse, passionate group of humans who are all asking, "What does a more perfect world look like?"—and more importantly, "How do we get there?" If you want to be part of this next chapter of the adventure with us, welcome to the revolution.

Next Steps in Our Hiring Process

At Stomping Ground, we believe in transparency, accessibility, and inclusion in everything we do—especially when it comes to hiring. That’s why we’re taking a community-centered approach to this process, involving a diverse group of campers, staff, and parents on our hiring committee. We want to ensure that every voice is heard and that the decision we make is one that benefits our entire community.

Here’s what you can expect from our hiring process:

Timeline:

  1. September: Job Launch

    • We’ll officially launch the job posting in September across a wide range of platforms. While we’ll be sharing it with our camp community, we’re also committed to reaching candidates beyond our usual networks. We’ll be intentional about promoting the opportunity on platforms where candidates of color and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds might be looking, ensuring that we have a diverse and inclusive pool of applicants.

  2. October: Application Collection

    • Throughout October, we’ll be collecting applications from passionate, driven individuals who believe in our mission. This month is all about getting the word out, receiving applications, and preparing for the next stages.

  3. November: Screening and Candidate Review

    • November is when we’ll dive deep into the application process. Our hiring committee will carefully screen and review all candidates, ensuring that we’re considering individuals who align with Stomping Grounds values. This stage will include:

      • Multiple Interviews: We’ll conduct several rounds of interviews to get to know candidates on a deeper level, offering a chance for them to engage with different members of our community.

      • In-Person Gatherings: We’re planning in-person gatherings to really get a sense of who the candidates are, how they build relationships, and how they might fit into our unique camp culture.

      • Community Involvement: Through every step of the process, our campers, staff, and parents will be involved in asking questions, giving feedback, building trust, and helping to make this important decision.

  4. End of November: Candidate Selection

    • Our goal is to choose our final candidate by the end of November. This will allow us to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition into the role, giving us time to onboard the candidate properly.

  5. December: Onboarding & Shadowing

    • Once we’ve made our decision, the selected candidate will begin onboarding in December. They’ll work closely with Maddy, shadowing her through camp operations and learning the ins and outs of the role. This will ensure that by January, the transition is as seamless as possible, and the new hire is ready to hit the ground running.

We’re excited to bring someone new into our community, and we’re committed to making this process as inclusive, thoughtful, and thorough as possible. We believe that by involving the entire community, we can find the right person to help carry our mission forward.

I can not wait to meet the person who will help lead Stomping Ground into the future!
